Cabaret Belly Dance Skirt
Directions:
  1. To begin with, you have to choose your colors and a design. I chose neon pink, various other pinks and crystal iris for shimmer. As a design, I chose a simple windmill pattern in various sizes.

  2. The skirt itself is a single cut of fabric, open 2/3 of the way up the leg on one side, made out of lycra.

  3. I measured the amount of a neon pink sequin trim that I needed to edge the opening and bottom of the skirt, and cut that amount off. With what remained, I began unraveling it and collecting the loose sequins, so that I would have a coordinating neon pink color too.

  4. I used the neon pink and various other sequins to make the radiating arms of my windmills. I used various seed beads to anchor the loose sequins. To make the center of all but the 2 largest windmills, I used the Sequin Rosettes Trim - Crystal Aurora Borealis (SKU:SM3934CAB) cut into individual rosettes.

  5. When I was done with the windmills, I then sewed the top third of the skirt together and hand stitched the neon pink trim onto the edges of the skirt.

  6. The gauntlets were made by measuring the wrist and upper arm where I wanted the sleeves to stop, and then cutting 2 pieces of fabric with those dimensions at the ends. I stitched a single windmill onto each gauntlet and then finished them off with hems.

Title: Decorative Tabret
Created by: Nicki VanNoord
Wyoming, MI 49519

Tabrets are tools for praise and worship, similar to tambourines, with no jingles.

Tabret
Supplies:
  • 1 wooden embroidery hoop, sample shows 8 inch
  • 6 pcs 6 inch layers of mylar streamers, colors to compliment design
  • 1 ft of 1/2 inch metallic trim
  • 1 ft of 1/4 inch sequin trim
  • 1/3 yard satin fabric
  • 1/3 yard iron-on interfacing
  • 3 or 4 inch tassel
  • Sequin or other motifs for theme of tabret
(Silver Cross SM837-01 and Dove SM299)
Directions:
  1. Mark the halfway around spots and the 3/4 around spots on both sides of the front edge of both hoops. The 3/4 marks are at the top.
  2. Lay the hoop on the edge of a table with a weight, (book) laid on top to hold it, exposing the bottom half of the hoop over the edge.
  3. Using your marks, begin gluing mylar streamers in layers along the bottom half of the outside edge of the inner hoop, according to preference of color patterns. Spring clothespins are very helpful to keep the position of the streamers. Allow to dry.

  4. Fold the fabric in half, and using you marks, lightly trace the inside of the outer hoop 3/4 of the way around. Do not cut!
  5. Cut iron-on interfacing to fit the opened tracing and iron on to back of fabric.
  6. Apply your design to the front of the front half of the fabric. Stitching work best as glue can let go during use.
  7. With back sides together, press along the fold.
  8. Apply glue to outer edge of inner hoop, all the way around, and the top (face) edge on the bottom half, only. Be careful of the fringe.
  9. Position the design with the flat folded edge at the 3/4 mark and press into glue on edge.
  10. Here’s the tricky part! Loosen or remove the screw, and being sure the screw is in the middle at the bottom of the hoops, press the outer hoop over the inner hoop. Be careful that the fringe does not get gluey or caught in the hoop! Pull fabric edges to tighten.
  11. Put the screw back into one hole, loop tassel over screw, put the screw into the other hole and tighten down as tight as possible.
  12. Carefully trim away excess fabric.
  13. Neatly glue 1/2" trim around the outer edge or the hoop.
  14. Neatly glue the 1/4" trim around the edge of the face of the tabret.
